Affine

Definition (Affine map)

A Linear Map f:Rn→Rnf:\mathbb{R}^{n}\to\mathbb{R}^{n} is called affine if for any x,y∈Rnx,y\in\mathbb{R}^{n} and any α,β∈R\alpha,\beta\in\mathbb{R} with α+β=1\alpha+\beta=1 we have f(αx+βy)=αf(x)+βf(y)f(\alpha x+\beta y)=\alpha f(x)+\beta f(y)

Definition (Affine function)

A function f:Rn→Rnf:\mathbb{R}^{n}\to\mathbb{R}^{n} is called affine if and only if f(x)=Ax+bf(x)=Ax+bfor some A∈Rm×nA\in\mathbb{R}^{m\times n} and b∈Rmb\in\mathbb{R}^{m}.

Intuition

This is a Linear Map but added with the property that it is shifted up or down
