Definition (Rational function)
A rational function g:R→Qg:\mathbb{R}\to \mathbb{Q}g:R→Q is the quotient of two real polynomials g(s)=bmsm+⋯+b1+b0sn+an−1sn−1+⋯+a1s+a0g(s)=\frac{b_{m}s^{m}+\dots+b_{1}+b_{0}}{s^{n}+a_{n-1}s_{n-1}+\dots+a_{1}s+a_{0}}g(s)=sn+an−1sn−1+⋯+a1s+a0bmsm+⋯+b1+b0where ak,bk∈Ra_{k},b_{k}\in\mathbb{R}ak,bk∈R, and m & nm\,\&\,nm&n are the degrees of the numerator and denominator polynomials.
